NRL star Tom Burgess’ newborn faces COVID-19 scare in Sydney

NRL star Tom Burgess is separated from his newborn daughter in hospital as the child falls ill amid a new COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney

Tom Burgess’ fiancée Tahlia Giumelli faced struggles after giving birth to their second child prematurely at 36 weeks.

And now the couples’ four-week-old daughter Elodie is back in the hospital fighting off a chest infection amid fresh COVID-19 cases in Sydney.

The WAG, 28, shared a heartbreaking post on Thursday detailing how Tom is not allowed into the recovery suite to comfort her or their child.

Tahlia and Tom became engaged in December 2019 after three years of dating, and welcomed their first daughter Sophie four months earlier in August 2019.

While Elodie has been diagnosed with bronchitis, the staff have isolated the mother-daughter duo until a negative COVID-19 test comes back for the pair.

‘This image broke my heart and for the first time during this whole experience I cried,’ Tahlia captioned an emotional photo of Tom peering into the hospital room’s glass windows.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs prop, 27, looked strained and concerned as he monitored his daughter’s condition from outside of the closed door.

‘There’s nothing more painful then being apart from your child when you know they need you the most,’ the mother-of-two added.

‘While we wait for Elodie’s covid results Tom isn’t allowed in the room and I would do anything for a hug myself right now,’ Tahlia said.

Thankfully, Tahlia confirmed Elodie appeared to be on the mend and has been ‘a trooper’ amid the illness.

In November, one week after giving birth to Elodie, the ‘exhausted’ football WAG found herself hooked up to a hospital drip after contracting gastroenteritis alongside her other half and newborn.

‘As soon as we felt we were settled Sophie gets hit with gastro (and bounces back like a champ) then 5 days postpartum I catch the gastro bug which is extremely exhausting on top of already being exhausted.’

Tahlia explained that when she didn’t think she could take much more bad luck, her partner Tom also came down with gastroenteritis.
