Piers and Susanna were discussing the news that Environment Secretary George Eustice claimed a Scotch egg counted as a substantial meal, in light of new rules that pubs must serve a meal to allow patrons to drink.

During the discussion, Susanna withdrew a scotch egg from beneath her desk but due to the split screen, it looked as though she was reaching behind Piers.

Clearly tickled, Piers said: ‘This wasn’t how it seemed…’

Fans then responded: ‘Bet you wish it was… She couldn’t pull a rabbit out of a hat but @susannareid100 can pull a scotch egg out of piersmorgan…

‘Is that how the Scottish eggs were made. I am thinking it was a good job Susanna didn’t bite into that substantial meal having conjured it from Piers’ backside’.

The hilarious moment comes as ITV bosses were popping champagne after the station enjoyed its highest ever daytime ratings on Tuesday.

Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women all achieved their biggest share of viewing since 2009 with an overall share of 25.3 per cent across the morning, marking an 11-year high.
