Make a bird box and a xylophone with IKEA’s free mini flatpacks

IKEA is launching a range of ‘mini flatpacks’ for FREE – where shoppers can put together art, bird boxes and other projects in just 15 minutes

  • IKEA Australia has released a series of miniature flatpacks for people to make
  • The ‘Mindsets’ only take 15 minutes to piece together and come with music
  • You can choose between a xylophone, bird box, pet treat, coaster puzzle & art
  • The idea comes from helping Australians find ‘privacy’ and some downtime

IKEA Australia has released a series of free miniature flatpacks for Australians to piece together in just 15 minutes – no Allen key required.

The retailer has partnered with five collaborators from a range of industries to create flatpack ‘Mindsets’ that allow customers to engage in a quick ‘mindful activity’ in a bid to secure more privacy in their home.

These limited-edition ‘Mindsets’ include a DIY xylophone created by Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins, a bird box from one of Australia’s favourite gardeners, Jason Hodges, and a pet treat puzzle for our furry friends, courtesy of Instagram sensation Mr Chuck.

There is also a piece of art from street artist, Fintan Magee, and a series of four drink coasters that double up as a jigsaw puzzle designed by the Head of Interior Design for IKEA.

Each collaborator has created a Spotify playlist that can be listened to while constructing the flatpacks through a DIY phone speaker, made using the box the Mindset arrives in.

The idea for the campaign came from insights in IKEA’s Life at Home Report, which found that while 87 per cent of Australians believe it is their right to have privacy in their home, 27 per cent are concerned that they are not getting enough.

This has a large impact on people’s wellbeing and is something the global conglomerate was looking to remedy.

The Mindset creations that take 15 minutes to construct are a way for people to secure privacy in their homes.

‘The IKEA Life at Home Report is the longest running and biggest study of life at home across 30 different countries,’ Collaborator Christine Gough said.

‘We understand the frustration of Australians not having privacy at home, particularly in the current environment, and so wanted to use our knowledge and inspiration to make life at home for the many Aussies a little better and more relaxed.’

There are only 1,885 Mindsets available and they will be distributed on a first come first served basis until stock runs out.

Consumers can register their application for a limited edition mindset on the website, and if quick enough, will receive the ones they want to try.
