Taylor Swift didn’t tell the stars of her You Need To Calm Down music video it was an LGBTQ anthem before filming according to Olympian Adam Rippon

Taylor Swift‘s You Need To Calm Down was considered an LGBTQ anthem from the moment it dropped.

But Olympian Adam Rippon revealed he had no clue about the pop star’s message before filming his cameo last year.

‘When we shot the music video we did not hear the song,’ he revealed in an interview on Hot And Rich with comedian Cait Raft on Wednesday. ‘I had never heard the song.’

Surprise! Olympian Adam Rippon revealed he had no clue that Taylor Swift’s You Need To Calm Down was going to be an LGBTQ anthem before he was in the music video

Not a close friend of Taylor’s, Rippon wasn’t exactly sure why he was asked to join, jokingly boiling it down to: ‘I guess I’m just famous.’

But when Adam recognized castmates like Laverne Cox, RuPaul, Billy Porter, Ellen DeGeneres, Hayley Kiyoko and Queer Eye’s Fab Five, he realized there might be a theme.

‘I  started looking around and was like “Oh, everyone’s gay,”‘ Rippon laughed.

‘They like didn’t tell you anything about the song?’ Cait asked.

‘No, I knew nothing,’ Adam went on, shaking his head.

The VIP shoot – which also featured Katy Perry, Ryan Reynolds and Ciara – was a major happening according to the championship winning figure skate.

‘So, there was a car that picked me up and then we made a stop [where] I had to drop my phone off,’ he said. ‘Then we drove to the set after that.’

But that was far from the most extreme security measure.

The video was so top-secret that there were two helicopters circling above to make sure there were no spies or paparazzi in sight.

While security was serious on set, Adam said Taylor was a charm to be around.

‘She was way nicer and way more down to Earth than I ever expected,’ he dished.

During the episode Adam – a huge Britney Spears fan – also talked to Cait about the pop star’s current situation.

‘I really want the conservatorship to end,’ he said, going on to praise the Gimme More songstress for taking care of herself.

‘I’m glad that she’s wearing her retainer. I’m glad that she decided no makeup was the best makeup, except for mascara,’ Adam went on before agreeing that wearing less eyeliner is a ‘sign of health.’

Hot And Rich airs live Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on Twitch.tv. Next day viewers can catch the show on YouTube or various podcast platforms.
