DATING PAST
I was with my last boyfriend for four years — we even bought a house together. It was a difficult break-up. I think I’m single because my attitude is too casual.
PRE-DATE NERVES?
I was really nervous, but I’ve taken a year-long break from dating, so now is the time to give it a go. I wore a smart dress, because I wanted to look dressy and feel confident.
Things got flirty and I wondered if Christian could be my Mr Grey
FIRST IMPRESSIONS?
I found out Christian’s first name ahead of the date — which took place before the new lockdown rules came into force — and immediately thought, ‘Oh hello, Fifty Shades Of Grey!’
He was already at our table when I arrived and I wondered if he could be my Mr Grey — he is very handsome.
I also liked his dress sense; he wore a dark shirt with black trousers. He complimented me on my hair and my outfit.
EASY TO TALK TO?
Christian was already drinking a whisky, which was a bold move for lunch, so I decided to go for a rosé-based cocktail.
We talked about dating turn-offs, and I laughed when he said that he didn’t want to meet someone with ‘fake breasts or fake eyelashes’.
We both studied drama and we both have family overseas. Christian’s a free spirit and I think he would draw me out of my comfort zone.
EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?
I did jokingly ask if he wanted to count all of the stars on my dress. Luckily, he took it in good spirits.
DID SPARKS FLY?
Yes, definitely — things got quite flirty between us.
Christian made me laugh. After lunch we went to a pub, and he won points for holding the door open for me and insisting on paying.
WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?
I think he liked me — there was a lot of flirting. I’m sure after lockdown we’ll see each other again.
We have been messaging and I would be open to a walk or a video call.
WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE HIM?
Everybody would like him.

CHRISTIAN, 30
DATING PAST?
I’m a bit of a free spirit. My longest relationship only lasted five months.
I’m also not a fan of this generation of women who enjoy getting drunk and are slaves to artificial beauty.
They should have more faith in how they naturally look.
PRE-DATE NERVES?
Going on a blind date felt a little bit weird, and I went into it with healthy scepticism.
I dressed up as I knew it could be my last date of 2020. Lucy dressed up, too, which I took as a good sign.
I hate the ‘fake British look’ but Lucy is naturally beautiful
FIRST IMPRESSIONS?
I arrived first, obviously. I like to be early.
I ordered a whisky and then I noticed a pretty woman wearing a dress covered in stars walking towards me.
To be honest, at first I assumed we weren’t going to have a similar vibe, but I later realised I was mistaken.
EASY TO TALK TO?
Lucy quizzed me over what I had to say about the ‘fake British look’ — I’m Maltese and have never dated a British woman before.
She told me she doesn’t usually bother with make-up and hasn’t had any tweakments, but she didn’t need to tell me that, as I could see she’s a naturally beautiful woman.
She also asked why I’ve never been to South London, where she lives — I think it was an invitation to see her again.
EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?
No, none. Thankfully, neither of us asked any offensive questions. I am known for my strident views.
Sometimes they can be a bit different from other people’s, and that can be awkward.
DID SPARKS FLY?
Yes, I think so. It was unexpectedly enjoyable and we went for another drink so we could continue to talk.
Lucy is attractive, smart and funny. She ticks a lot of boxes.
WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?
We’ve spoken more since our date and Lucy has mentioned meeting again.
I think she likes me, and the feeling is mutual.
WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE HER?
If I like someone, I don’t need anyone else’s confirmation.
