Beauty Knowhow: Real scents of style

Oh-so-covetable spritzes – with perfectly matching accessories

Fashion and jewellery brands launching fragrances is well established but it is a new venture for Italian leather brand Furla. It’s created five excellent aromas in clear bottles with coloured contents to mirror its collections. Here I have Magnifica (from £17, next.co.uk) in the label’s signature Candy Pink – as is the bag (£285, furla.com). It’s a charming blend of mandarin, lavender, peach, jasmine and lily of the valley – think feminine, joyful vibes.

The latest fragrance launches from the more established brands featured here feel more connected to fashion than ever. Firstly, Bulgari has collaborated with Mary Katrantzou, the London-based designer known for vibrant prints and bold colour. She designed the bottle and an accompanying silk scarf (£330) for the latest launch of its Omnia perfume collection (£87, both selfridges.com). Working with the perfumer Alberto Morillas, Bulgari has created a bold bouquet of fig, gardenia and mandarin.

Cartier’s latest haute fragrance collection is inspired by the rose – not one of in-house perfumer Mathilde Laurent’s favourite olfactory notes: ‘I only love wild roses’. So with Pure Rose (£250, selfridges.com) she has captured a realistic scent, as if you were burying your nose in the bloom. Also inspired by its Juste un Clou jewellery range, which features gold nails twisted into bangles, rings and earrings (from £750, cartier.com), Pure Rose has a sharpness, too – charming yet also a dash rock ’n’ roll. Truly sumptuous.

Jimmy Choo has moved its fragrances closer to its fashion and the new I Want Choo eau de parfum (£45, theperfumeshop.com) features for the first time the brand’s logo – as seen on this Varenne Clutch (£695, jimmychoo.com). Choo fragrances are usually rather sweet affairs and this is but it’s definitely less saccharine and fizzy than others; its notes of peach, mandarin, vanilla and benzoin create a glamorous flourish – my favourite of the Choo perfumes.
