James admitted that while he thought the title of the ‘hottest man on TV’ was flattering, it did make him uncomfortable.

On the show, fans will remember that he often had shirtless scenes as the show’s resident hunk.

‘Are you okay with the ”hottest man on TV title?” host Larry Emdur asked.

‘No, I was never okay with it, I spent most of my career playing bad guys until housewives,’ James said.

He added: ‘I had never been hunky. I was happy to be there, don’t get me wrong, but it was uncomfortable. It follows me forever, that shirtless shot in the front yard.’

James said when he first read the script, that required him to go shirtless, he was eating pizza and drinking beer and then hit the gym straight away.

‘I got the scene and spat out the pizza and threw the beer down, went straight to the gym and I still didn’t get into very good shape,’ he said.

He added: ‘It’s a lot of work, Larry!’

James added that he was happy with how his character was killed off on the show.

Mike crossed an enemy and was shot dead on Wisteria Lane and died in the arms of his on-off partner Susan, played by Teri Hatcher.

In 2014, James revealed that he was desperate to get his children out of Los Angeles after his eight-year run on ABC’s Desperate Housewives ended in 2012.

‘I wanted to get my kids out of LA,’ James told People at the time.

‘So we moved to Minnesota right away. I’ve also got a house in rural Montana, which is our escape from Minnesota!’ he added.

He has two children with personal trainer wife Erin O’Brien.
