This Morning viewers were left in tears after a pensioner revealed she and her new partner proposed to each other on the same day.

Last Wednesday, Anna, 72, from Northampton, had phoned in to the show going by the name Jenny, to secretly reveal how she had found love during the pandemic, and was planning to ask new boyfriend John, 69, to marry her.

The pair met last year outside a local coffee shop while out for a walk, and Anna told how they instantly hit it off, quickly becoming members of each other’s support bubbles.

Viewers were moved today when she appeared once again to reveal how she had proposed to John on Friday, only to discover that he had already bought her an engagement ring and planned to propose on Valentine’s Day.

Last Wednesday, Anna said of meeting John for the first time: ‘I’ve moved recently. I’ve been on my own for many years, I sold up the family home and moved to a village where I didn’t really know anyone.

‘I went for a walk and thought I would treat myself to a nice cup of coffee and as I was sat there, this very nice looking man just said good morning and sat opposite me. I met him again the following week and after that we’ve been together everyday’.

Appearing on the show today, Anna explained how she proposed to John over a roast dinner and told him that having a cappuccino with him was the ‘best cup of coffee she’s ever had’.

‘I cooked a nice roast dinner with all the trimmings and John said “You look quite serious, are you okay?” I said I just want to chat to you if I can.

‘I said, when I moved here, I didn’t know anyone, which I think was brave of me. I got this empty cottage and thought I would start again. And when I got that cappuccino, it was the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had. ‘

Anna continued: ‘[I said] We’re in a bubble and I don’t want to be bubble to burst and I’m going to say something I’ve thought about for a long time – then I got out my Rescue Remedy spray.

‘He said “Hold on you’ve jumped the gun, babe”, he said. “Wait a minute I have to go”, and I thought, “Oh he’s gone, I’ve made a big mistake here”.

‘The bell rang and he said “Let’s sit down”, and then he said “I have something to give you, I bought this to give you on Valentine’s Day” and he gave me a little box and inside was a sparkly diamond ring and he said “Will you do the honour of being my wife?”.’
