Femail reveals the supermarket best buys

Supermarket clothing ranges have been given the TikTok seal of approval by Gen Z shoppers.

A video posted by UK-based user Alexandriah showcases the trendy spring collection from Tesco‘s own label F&F and asks: ‘Is Tesco the new Zara?’

It struck a chord with viewers and has received more than 230,000 ‘likes’ in four days, with many saying they are going to take a look at the range next time they do their weekly shop.

Supermarket clothing ranges have provided a lifeline to shoppers who need to stock up on essentials like children’s shoes or winter coats over lockdown and don’t want to go through the hassle or expense of online shopping.

As essential stores, supermarkets are allowed to remain open and customers can still browse their own label clothing lines at larger branches and superstores.

Femail has scoured Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons and Asda, as well as Marks & Spencer, to find some of the best womenswear, menswear and children’s clothes on offer.

Availability varies from store to store so it is recommended you check with your local branch before heading out. Here, some of our favourite finds…

BEST FOR COATS: TU BY SAINSBURY’S

Wrap up for winter: This £30 Blue Single Button Crombie Coat by Tu by Sainsbury’s is a winter warmer in a bright, uplifting colour that will carry you into spring

With temperatures still bitingly cold, a winter coat has never been more essential.

And if yours has finally given up the ghost then the good news in there are plenty of options available in the supermarket, including some that will carry you into the warmer months.

This £30 Blue Single Button Crombie Coat by Tu by Sainsbury’s is a winter staple in a bright, uplifting colour that will look particularly lovely when the weather starts to turn.

Layer on top of a chunky knit sweater and a classic white t-shirt for a look that’s still low-key but slightly dressier than leggings and a jumper.

Tu also has puffer coats, rain coats and faux fur options, as well as coats for children and the man in your life.

BEST UNDERWEAR: NUTMEG AT MORRISONS

Great value: 4 pack high leg picot trim briefs from Nutmeg by Morrison's, £4.50

Underwear is something you don’t want to spend a fortune on, which is why we were struck by the affordable multi-packs available at Nutmeg by Morrison’s.

The four-pack of briefs pictured above costs just £4.50, and there are other colours and patterns available.

Morrison’s also has you covered when it comes to tights, briefs and even control pants, so you can give your underwear drawer a complete refresh.

Children’s essentials: First Walkers Bing White Cup Sole Trainers, £13, at Asda

Shoes are something little ones go through surprisingly quickly, but fortunately the supermarkets have you covered if you need to stock up.

George by Asda has a great range available, including ones decorated with favourite TV and book characters.

These First Walkers Trainers are bright and colourful with Bing on the toes and cost just £13.

BEST FOR SHOES: MARKS & SPENCER

These boots are made for walking: Elevate your next park walk with these M&S Wellington Boots (£17.50). M&S branches that house a Food Hall are allowed to stay open in lockdown, meaning a limited selection of clothes, shoes and accessories can be found in store

All M&S Food halls are open as usual, including ones in larger stores that also sell clothing and homeware.

Upper levels in multi-storey stores will likely be closed off but areas of the shop that lead to the Food hall will remain open, meaning you can still able to browse a selection of non-food items like lingerie, bed linen and coats.

M&S is a great go-to for all sorts of essentials, including its range of cheerful, high-quality jumpers, but it’s the range of shoes and boots that are particularly noteworthy.

Although Covid restrictions mean you are unable to try on any pairs, you can still get a better idea of sizing, heel height and material than you would online.

The extensive range includes everything from practical wellington boots to versatile  ‘hiking’ boots that work well for family walks and trips to the supermarket, but will be smart enough to dress up for lunch with the girls once restaurants reopen.

Our hero pick are these Wellington Boots, currently available for £17.50.

BEST KIDS CLOTHES: F&F BY TESCO

Get active: This adorable £4 jumper and matching £4 jogging bottoms from F&F at Tesco are perfect for a busy day in the park

Parents have taken to social media to say how difficult it has been trying to keep their little ones clothed during lockdown, particularly when they are babies and toddlers and grow out of their wardrobes in just a few months.

But there are great clothes for children of all ages to be found at the supermarket. We’re particular fans of the options available at F&F by Tesco.

The full range isn’t available to browse online so you’ll have to pop into your nearest Tesco superstore if you’re looking for something specific.

This adorable £4 jumper and matching £4 jogging bottoms are perfect for a busy day in the park.
