High School Musical’s Joshua Bassett undergoes mystery surgery after being in ‘the worst pain’

High School Musical star Joshua ‘Joshy’ Bassett announced Thursday night that he’d undergone his ‘first surgery’ for a mystery ailment, which was unrelated to COVID-19.

‘According to the doc, I now have the medal for “the sickest patient in the hospital.” How cool!’ the 20-year-old SoCal native – who boasts 4.7M social media followers – wrote.

‘After an unknown, uncomfortable feeling turned into, times 10, the worst pain of my life, I figured I’d just try to sleep. After multiple, very, very ugly days and nights, I had no choice today but be taken to the hospital [ER].’  

Joshua wrote that he would receive an update on his condition in the morning from the doctors, who are ‘the sweetest, most professional people in the world. They’ve made me feel very safe!’

Bassett revealed his medical emergency five hours after dropping a music video for Lie Lie Lie, which is the first single off his upcoming debut EP.

The music video for the track he penned back in 2019 was directed by Gus Black in Joshua Tree where the homeschooled triple-threat has been quarantining. 

Joshua last made headlines for an alleged love triangle between himself, his onscreen leading lady Olivia Rodrigo, and Work It actress Sabrina Carpenter. 

Last June, Bassett vehemently denied ‘abhorrent’ sexual assault allegations made by someone called Grace from a deactivated Twitter account.

‘It has come to my attention that a now deactivated account has spread rumors about me regarding a fabricated encounter with a fan accusing me of sexual assault,’ the Heaven Is You singer tweeted. 

‘This abhorrent rumor is absolutely false, and dangerous to actual victims with real stories. I’m sick to my stomach that someone would recklessly perpetuate such defamatory claims. It is vital to respect all peoples boundaries at all times.’

Joshua concluded by writing: ‘Be kind and be good.’

Bassett will next reprise his role as guitarist/skateboarder Ricky Bowen in the 12-episode second season of High School Musical: The Musical – The Series, which premieres later this year on Disney+.
