Ralf Little reveals he was separated from his fiancée while filming Death In Paradise in Guadeloupe and admits their wedding is on hold due to Covid

Ralf Little has revealed he was separated from his fiancée throughout filming the most recent series of Death In Paradise due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The actor, 40, is engaged to playwright Lindsey Ferrentino and told how the couple’s wedding has now been put on hold after she suggested they get married in Guadeloupe where the show is filmed.

Speaking on Monday’s episode of The One Show, he said: ‘Well they’re [wedding plans] pretty much on hold. She couldn’t even come out to the island this time.

‘That was an idea she had, “why don’t we get married out here?” I was like, “cause I’m busy trying to film a TV show where I’m in every scene”.

‘She said, “OK, maybe next year.” That’s why I organised the pandemic, to make sure I had an excuse to put it down the line,’ he joked.

Ralf, who got engaged to Lindsey in September 2018, also admitted that she has to use subtitles when she watches his sitcom The Royle Family.

The former footballer starred as Antony Royle in the comedy series alongside Ricky Tomlinson and Caroline Aherne.

Asked if it was true his wife-to-be couldn’t understand some of the show, Ralf said: ‘No, it’s true. She’s American, that’s why I’m over here in Florida, she grew up here.

‘How do you explain the Royle Family to Americans? She said: “I did get lost around episode four, series one and I had to put the subtitles on.”

‘How does an American understand what Ricky Tomlinson is on about?’

Ralf previously told how his proposal to Lindsey was ‘very romantic’ and she had not been expecting it.

He said: 'That was an idea she had, "why don’t we get married out here?" I was like, "cause I’m busy trying to film a TV show where I’m in every scene"'

He told The Mirror: ‘It was very romantic. We were in a country house, it was a big surprise.

‘To her, I mean, I planned it in advance. I had a total result with the ring, though. She said to me if she ever got engaged there’s only one ring for her – her grandma’s, it’s absolutely beautiful. And free. I was like, “Brilliant!”‘

Ralf plays DI Neville Parker on Death In Paradise, joining the show last year during series nine.

Parker landed in the Caribbean as the quintessential Brit abroad: struggling with mosquitos, mopping his sweaty brow and slathering himself with sunscreen before he even left the airport.

The introduction was met with praise by fans at home at the time, who said the character – the fourth leading detective in nine series – has ‘already made the show funnier’.

Ralf follows in the footsteps of Ben Miller, Kris Marshall and Ardal O’Hanlon, who have played the previous British detectives on the island.
