A former contestant on The Voice reveals what Delta Goodrem was REALLY like behind the scenes of the singing show

A former Voice contestant has spoken out about what goes on behind the scenes of the singing competition show.

In an editorial for Mamamia on Tuesday, Kiran Gupta, from last year’s season, revealed what the fans don’t see.

He also spoke about the show’s celebrity coaches, and singled out Delta Goodrem as the nicest and most compassionate.

Kiran said he didn’t manage to turn any seats during his blind audition and consequently didn’t progress any further in the competition.

‘I assume that Goodrem saw the disappointment in my eyes. It was pretty disheartening to give my all to a performance and come away with nothing,’ he wrote.

‘As I was about to walk offstage, Goodrem decided to come backstage with me. When the cameras stopped rolling, she greeted my mum and my sister before having another chat with me.

‘She encouraged me to continue singing and said she wished she had turned her chair. She made sure I was alright, before she returned to the stage.’

Kiran admitted the whole audition was a whirlwind, and said less than five minutes after walking off the stage he was back in the carpark.

‘I never saw anyone from the show again. It’s a brutal and unceremonious exit and not something you can truly prepare yourself for,’ he added.

But Kiran said Delta’s encouragement had inspired him to keep pursuing singing, and admitted he probably would’ve given up if it wasn’t for her kind words.

After it was revealed earlier this month that Delta, 36, wouldn’t be returning for next year’s season of The Voice, Kiran said the show has some very big shoes to fill.

He praised the Paralyzed singer for giving the talent show ‘credibility’ and said she ‘went above and beyond’ to redeem what was an otherwise disappointing experience for him.

'She encouraged me to continue singing and said she wished she had turned her chair. She made sure I was alright, before she returned to the stage,' Kiran said of Delta
