‘She was my competitor’: Samantha Jade told she could have been as big as Britney Spears – as she blames ex record label for ruining her chance

She may have found success as a pop singer in Australia.

But Samantha Jade claims her career could have been far more fruitful if it weren’t for her former rival Britney Spears

Speaking to Nova FM’s How To… Life podcast on Tuesday, Samantha 33, revealed that she and Britney were once in direct competition after they were both signed to the same music label – Jive Records.

Samantha was just 16-years-old at the time, having just relocated from Australia to Los Angeles in search of fame.

‘I am such a huge Britney fan. Like, I love her. But we were signed to the same label,’ the Bounce singer began.

‘So at the time, she was kind of my competitor….which is so weird to say, because it’s like, “Britney? What, how are you that close to her?”‘ she continued.

The Firestarter songstress went on to explain that she and Britney even had the same marketing team and artistic development coaches.

However, Samantha’s dreams soon turned to nightmares when the record label shifted its focus to enhancing Britney’s career over hers.

‘[The record label] basically said, “We’re going to either put all of our eggs into Britney’s basket, and you are going to have to be kind of shelved for a year (meaning that all the music you write is going to be old by then)… or [we’re not going to] work on your project”,’ Samantha said.

The Bounce singer decided to leave Jive Records and look elsewhere for a better deal.

Unfortunately, Samantha failed to find success in the US and returned home to Australia in 2010.

She would later shoot to national fame after winning The X Factor Australia in 2012.
