Busy Philipps posts make-up free selfie after being told she looks ‘exhausted and sad’ by social media troll

Busy Philipps responded to a troll in the most real way possible.

The 41-year-old Cougar Town actress took to Instagram on Wednesday and leaned into the ‘exhausted and sad’ look after receiving the harsh comment from a social media troll days prior.

Sharing a stripped back make-up free selfie to her Instagram, Phillips hit back at the critique as she said, ‘Exhausted and Sad is the official trademarked slogan of 2020!!,’ while receiving an outpouring of support from her fans.

Owning it: Busy Philipps, 41, shares a no-makeup selfie as she leans into the ‘exhausted and sad,’ look after receiving the harsh comment from a social media troll days prior

In the no makeup photo Philipps sat on her couch in a pair of jeans and a navy long sleeved T-shirt.

With heavy looking eyes and what appeared to be remnants of some smeared eye makeup grazing her cheekbones, she was not ashamed to admit that this year has been tough on her.

Acknowledging her futile decision to even remotely address the negativity before turning it around, she said:

‘I saw a comment (I know) the other day that I look “exhausted and sad”. BABIES! Exhausted and Sad is the official trademarked slogan of 2020!! BLESS YOUR HEART if you’re well rested and happy!’

She continued, ‘But like a mom with a newborn that sleeps through the night, PLEASE KEEP IT TO YOURSELF,’ as she hashtagged the abbreviation for ‘I just like this pic,’ and ‘no filter.’

Fans were quick to tell her how great she looked while Nicole Richie commented ‘100’ on the photo as she echoed the sentiments of her candor.

In a recent conversation with Forbes, Busy talked about her decision to share the hard times in her life – as championed on her podcast Busy Phillips Is Doing Her Best – as she said, ‘We want to share those moments because right now everybody is having one of those moments.’

She continued, ‘Making the decision to be as honest as I could be with myself was incredibly freeing and has certainly permeated my life,’ as she opts to bare all sides of her on social media.

The former Busy Tonight host also shared on Wednesday that she was up bright and early to film her new show Girls5eva on the east coast, about a nineties girl group who reunites later in life amid the trials of adulthood.

A bit frazzled she said that she was up an hour earlier than she needed to be as she got her car pickup time wrong to take her to set, while saying she had not washed her hair in three days.

Balancing her work obligations as well as being a mom to two girls Birdie, 12, and Cricket, seven, Phillips spoke to Us Weekly about the challenges of handling it all while calling it ‘important’ for her mental health.

‘Having that time out of the house and being out, doing the thing that I really like to do, has been important for me.You have to prioritize yourself a little bit,’ she said while noting that time away from her kids and husband Marc Silverstein has helped her be a better familywoman.
