Mark Wahlberg praises Sydney’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic

Mark Wahlberg sings Sydney’s praises over its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and says he wishes the US had ‘followed suit’… after training a string of Aussie stars at an F45 gym

He arrived in Sydney via private jet on Sunday, after completing two weeks in mandatory quarantine at a luxury retreat outside of Byron Bay.

And on Tuesday morning, Hollywood A-lister Mark Wahlberg praised Australia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as he fronted a sweat-inducing F45 session with a whole host of Aussie celebs in Woolloomooloo.

‘It seems like everybody here really did it right,’ the 49-year-old told The Daily Telegraph, adding: ‘I wish the U.S followed suit.’

‘The two weeks quarantine seems to be a bit of a downer but you are getting real results – people are able to go around and be able to function, working out together, going in to restaurants, and that sort of thing.’

In the USA, COVID-19 cases have hit a record of over 16 million – with the country suffering 301,000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.  

Meanwhile, in Australia, there have been around 28,000 cases in total and 908 deaths. 

State borders have been lifted, workers have returned to their offices and restrictions have become less severe in pubs, clubs and restaurants.

Mark is expected to return home to the the USA to spend the festive season with his wife Rhea Durham and their four children; daughters Ella-Rae, 15, and Grace, nine, and sons Michael, 12, and Brendan, 10.

At Tuesday’s event, cricketer David Warner, his wife Candice, model twins Jordan and Zac Stenmark, athlete Amy Pejkovic, and glamour couple Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull all attended the training session.

Mark bought a minority stake in the gym chain with his company, the Mark Wahlberg Investment Group, and FOD Capital.

F45 refers to the 45-minute high-intensity functional workouts the gym is famous for.

The company has 1,500 studios across 40 countries and is the fastest growing fitness franchise in the world.

Mark is reportedly in Australia to film an advert for online betting agency Ladbrokes.
