Tyler Hoechlin shows off his physique in first photos from The CW’s new spin-off Superman & Lois

He’s taking over the role of Superman as The CW revives the legendary superhero for its new series Superman & Lois.

And Tyler Hoechlin was seen for the first time on the set of the upcoming show on Tuesday as he suited up in the recognizable blue suit and red cape.

The 33-year-old actor was seen filming what looked like a battle sequence on a set in Vancouver, Canada, that was dressed to look like Shanghai.

Man of Steel: Tyler Hoechlin, 33, showed off his ripped physique when he was seen for the first time on the set of The CW spin-off Superman & Lois on Wednesday

Tyler’s suit had the recognizable ‘S’ logo over the chest and a navy blue suit that accentuated his bulging biceps, though it wasn’t clear if the suit had added padding.

It featured red boots that looked like tall trainers and matched his nearly floor-length crimson cape.

The actor seemed to be filming a showdown, as his suit and hair were covered in a thin layer of dust and dirt, and bits of wood and brick were strewn at his feet.

Tyler was also seen wearing a thick black down jacket between takes as he tried to warm up against the Canadian chill.

He also sported a black mask in accordance with COVID-19 safety regulations for film and television productions.

Earlier on Wednesday, the California-born actor was shown looking ultra-muscular while standing atop a building in Metropolis in new publicity photos for Superman & Lois.

His hair was swept back in an handsome, All-American man style but a hint of five o’clock shadow along his chiseled jawline offered the look a bit of grit.

The globe of the local newspaper/Clark Kent’s place of work The Daily Planet loomed behind him as he gazed off into the distance.

Leading man Hoechlin talked about Superman’s new look a bit in a statement: ‘I find that the new suit is representative of the show. Just as this suit is unique and set apart from the ones that preceded it, the story we’re telling about Clark/Superman at this point in his life is unique and something we’ve never seen before. I appreciate the opportunity to wear the suit and the responsibility that comes with it.’

‘But it’s always interesting when I’m asked how I feel about “my new suit,” because I’ve always felt that the suit doesn’t belong to me; it belongs to everyone that finds some kind of meaning in that suit, in the symbol on the chest. I just happen to be the one wearing it.’

More than a suit: Talking about what it's like to wear the iconic suit, Hoechlin said, 'I’ve always felt that the suit doesn’t belong to me; it belongs to everyone that finds some kind of meaning in that suit, in the symbol on the chest. I just happen to be the one wearing it'

‘I come from the world of baseball and a line of coaches that always preached that the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the one on the back. Because when you wear that jersey, it represents not only you, but your entire team, and everyone that has ever worn that jersey that came before you.

‘So when I wear the suit, that’s what it means to me. It represents everything that Superman stands for and has stood for, for almost a century now. And I look forward to carrying on that tradition.’

In the past Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Henry Cavill, Kirk Alyn, and Brandon Routh have played Superman.

The new suit is meant to evoke ‘a classic, timeless vibe that both harkens back to the Superman we all grew up with while grounding him and elevating the suit in a modern arena with updated techniques and applications.’

Elizabeth Tulloch stars opposite Hoechlin as Lois, reprising the role she had in the CW’s Supergirl.

Fans can look forward to a two-shot of the leads later this week.
