Tina Fey hosts star-studded virtual fundraiser for Girls Inc featuring Hillary Clinton, Rita Moreno and Annie Lennox to raise $600K

Tina Fey hosted a star-studded virtual fundraiser with the organization Girls Inc on Sunday.

The 50-year-old writer and comedienne teamed up with the New York based nonprofit and female powerhouses like Hillary Rodham Clinton, Rita Moreno, Jameela Jamil, Symone D Sanders and Annie Lennox to raise $600K. 

The organization encourages girls to be ‘Strong, Smart, and Bold,’ by equipping them with necessary skills and advocacy, and opted to use a virtual format for lthe event to spotlight a mixture of powerful women for a good cause. 

Girls Inc. Tina Fey, 50, hosted a star-studded virtual charity event on Sunday evening for Girls Inc. with the likes of Hillary Clinton, Symone D. Sanders, Jameela Jamil, and Annie Lennox to raise $600K for the nonprofit which encourages girls to be ‘Strong, Smart, and Bold’

Bringing together changemakers, singers, actresses and business women to share their stories, the night aimed to inspire women and girls to make their voice heard and take hold of their goals. 

With panels on women in comedy, Black women in entertainment and musical performances from Lennox and Chaka Khan, the night was full of poignant discussion and a lot of light. 

Fey spoke about the financial and educational challenges girls face across the country as she touched on discrepancies in opportunity for low-income and minority communities. 

The virtual event powered by Bustle opened with EGOT winner Moreno who reflected on the life of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and imparted wisdom.

Clinton made a special appearance where she read the Girls Bill of Rights and was followed later by Girls Inc. alum and chief spokeswoman for Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Sanders. 

Sanders talked about getting involved in politics at an early age and spoke fondly of the program which provided a foundation for her incredible career success. 

Also stopping by to share their stories were Youtube star Skai Jackson, gymnast Simone Biles, GMA host and producer Robin Roberts, comedienne Wanda Sykes and Grammy-winning artist H.E.R.

Lennox played her hit A Thousand Beautiful Things on her piano as she provided some beautiful melodies set to a montage of the organization’s work. 

GMA host and producer Robin Roberts said that the greatest gift she ever got was the fact that her grandmother raised a ‘strong daughter’ as she said she would like to believe ‘the apple does not fall from the tree.’ 

The diverse team of successful women helped raise over half a million dollars so that the organization could continue carrying out the work to help girls dream big as the night proved to be a huge success.
