‘Life is going to throw a whole truckload of challenges at you and I want to be ready’: Nick Cummins reveals the devastating reason he agreed to go on SAS Australia

Nick Cummins revealed the heartbreaking reason he agreed to appear on SAS Australia during the show’s intense finale on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old former rugby union player confessed he was trying to build up his ‘resilience’ after being left devastated by his father Mark’s terminal cancer diagnosis.

‘I remember the phone call from Dad, and he said, “I’ve got terminal cancer, and I’ve got a couple of years,”‘ he recounted, getting emotional.

‘It all sort of hit me, and I just cried for bloody half an hour. I just want to, whatever time is left, have the most loving, awesome experience.

‘That’s why I’m here, because I want to level up who I am and what I can handle to build bullet-proof resistance, because life is going to throw a whole truckload of challenges at ya, and I want to be ready for it.’

Nick spoke about his dad’s devastating cancer diagnosis during an episode of the hit Channel Seven reality show earlier this month.

‘He’s got terminal cancer, and I think that situation has driven me through my career to work harder, to try and prove to him that I’m deserving of his love, and I want to try and make that happen before it’s too late,’ he previously said.

As he began to tear up, Nick struggled to keep his emotions in check and was rendered unable to speak.

He was later pulled into an interrogation with the show’s DS (directing staff), where he spoke more about his dad and the phone call that changed his life.

Nick reflected on the heartbreaking moment he found out about his dad’s cancer diagnosis, revealing he cried for half an hour.

‘I remember the phone call. It was a life-changing moment. He said, “Just back from the doctor’s.” I was like, “Oh, are you all good?”‘ he began.

‘And he goes, “I’ve got another couple of years.” A couple of days later, I was in the shower and it all sort of hit me, and I just sort of slid to the bottom of the shower.’
