Alex George warns fans not to ‘get complacent’ after he seeing ‘young’ Covid patients enter hospital

Dr Alex George has taken to his Instagram story to issue a stark warning to his fans about Covid-19. 

The 2017 Love Island star, 30, filmed himself as he headed home at night, after a long day working in A&E at University Hospital Lewisham in South London. 

Speaking directly to his fans, Alex warned that it was important not to ‘get complacent’ even if we might be ‘fed up’ of being told what to do about Covid-19. 

He also revealed that he had seen an increased number of young patients enter intensive care – dashing the hopes of those youths who believe they face little risk in the pandemic 

The celebrity doctor said: ‘I’ve just finished my shift in A&E and I am about to head home now. 

‘And I just wanted to share that today, I’m going to be honest with you, was a lot busier with Covid. And we admitted quite a few patients to A&E who were pretty young. 

‘So I think it’s important we all stay focussed on this. I know everyone is fed up of hearing about Covid – but let’s not get complacent and let’s be as careful as we can.’

Despite his stern words, Alex also shared another snap of himself on Instagram in which he cut a rather more friendly appearance.

The star was show decked out in in his dark teal scrubs and a turquoise face mask, and he wrote ‘Busy day at the office but still smiling (promise)’. 

And after his return home, Alex added to his Instagram story, telling fans that he did not ‘want to panic’ anyone, but he simply thought it important to tell the truth.

‘Look I don’t want to panic anyone at all – but it’s important to share what we are experiencing,’ he said.

‘It’s hard to see some of the things I am seeing with my patients – I think its best to be open with you guys.’ 

Dr Alex’s latest activity on Instagram comes as he shared his optimism for the potential COVID-19 vaccine that was announced on Monday.  

Taking to Instagram following the news, the Love Island star, 30, posted a snap of himself at hospital in his surgical gear, where he has shared many updates during the pandemic.

Looking hopeful, he captioned the snap: ‘VACCINE PROGRESS! Although the trial data is yet to be finalised the optimist inside me can’t help but smile.

‘There are questions still to be answered but the current data suggests this vaccine has the potential of being 90% effective, following two doses.

‘As a medic I know we must wait for the full results but I still can’t help feeling gassed! 

 ‘After the year we have all had it’s great to have some good news!

‘THANK YOU to all the scientists, researchers and of course brave volunteers who have worked tirelessly on this vaccine!’  

The global race to find a coronavirus vaccine took a leap forward on Monday when pharma companies Pfizer and BioNTech claimed their experimental jab is 90 per cent effective.

Boris Johnson promised the UK will be at the ‘front of the pack’ for the new vaccine after the massive breakthrough. 

Aside from battling the virus on the front line and splitting from his girlfriend, Alex has experienced the death of his little brother Llyr this year.
