One of Mayfair’s oldest mansions has gone on sale for a staggering £54.5million – making it the most expensive home to come on the market since the national lockdown.
The stunning Grade II listed townhouse on Upper Grosvenor Street in central London was built in 1732 and extensively refurbished by Chelsea-born architect Ralph Knott – best known as the designer of County Hall, home of the former Greater London Council – in 1908.
Since then the property, which spans six storeys and occupies more than 14,500 sq ft, has been gloriously restored and modernised by its current owners, Jersey-registered company Boss Holdings Ltd – while still paying homage to its history.
Its eye-watering price tag is 32 times higher than the £1.7 million it sold for in 2008, reports the Evening Standard.

Rob Windsor, director of agents Clifton Property Partners, along with Knight Frank, told ES Homes & Property that the property, which was previously rented out for £27,500 a week, had been in poor condition when the owners purchased it six years ago.

This week it emerged the average asking price of a home has soared to a record £323,530 as sellers capitalise on unprecedented demand during the stamp duty holiday.
Prices rose by 1.1 per cent from September to October and are now £16,818 – or 5.5 per cent – higher than the same time last year. Experts said they expect growth to continue until the new year when it could peak at 7 per cent.
However, a survey by the Bank of England last week predicted borrowers would soon find it harder to get a mortgage as lenders prepare for a winter jobs crisis.
