Ellen Pompeo wears a striped shirt and jeans to get an ice cream in Los Angeles

She recently returned to the set of Grey’s Anatomy, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced Hollywood to temporarily shut down.

And Ellen Pompeo put on a casual display for her an outing to McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams in Studio City, Los Angeles, on Tuesday.

The actress, 50, was seen picking up a sweet treat as she enjoyed a break from her busy schedule, and she looked relaxed in a striped shirt and lightwash jeans for the day out.

Ellen’s oversized top fit loosely over her frame, while her jeans had cut-out detailing on the knees to give her look a distressed flair.

Keeping her look simple, the Station 19 star stepped out in colourful trainers, and she kept her personal items in a brown handbag.

She pulled her ombre locks into a messy ponytail and made sure to keep safe amid the coronavirus crisis by wearing a surgical mask outside.

Pompeo recently appeared in the trailer for the Grey’s Anatomy season 17 premiere, which will serve as a two-hour crossover event with Station 19.

She previously took to Instagram last month with a photo of herself and costar Richard Flood, posing for the selfie in scrubs and face masks.

The mother-of-three wrote: ‘First time back in my scrubs… since we shut down filming 7000 healthcare workers have died from Covid.

‘I dedicate my season 17 to all who have fallen and to everyone of you who by the grace of God is still standing… this season is for you with humility and a bit of humor to get us through and endless amounts of gratitude. I hope we do you proud’

She previously teased in August that she might be ready to depart the show soon, as she chatted with Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert.

Pompeo said: ‘Certainly, I think to dip out sooner rather than later at this point, having done what we’ve done, to leave while the show is still on top is definitely a goal.

‘I’m not trying to stay on the show forever. No way… The truth is, if I get too aggravated and I’m no longer grateful there, I should not be there.’

She’s starred on the medical drama as the titular Dr. Meredith Grey for 17 seasons, since the show first premiered back in 2005.

The actress/director/producer told Jemele Hill earlier in August: ‘You know, I made choices to stay on the show. For me, personally, a healthy home life was more important than career.

‘I didn’t grow up with a particularly happy childhood. So the idea that I have this great husband and these three beautiful children [and] a happy home life was really something I needed to complete, to close the hole in my heart.’

She added: ‘And so I made a decision to make money, and not chase creative acting roles. I don’t like chasing anything ever, and acting to me, in my experience, was a lot of chasing.

‘You’ve got to chase roles, you’ve got to beg for roles, you’ve got to convince people… and although I produce and it’s the same kind of thing, I think I still do it from a place of, I’m never that thirsty because I’m financially set.’

It appears to have worked out for Pompeo, who was announced last week as the eighth highest paid TV actress by Forbes, raking in $19million over the past year.
