Jeannie Mai responds to backlash after saying she wants to ‘submit’ to future husband Jeezy

Jeannie Mai is setting the records straight after questionable commentary on a recent episode of The Real.

The 41-year-old fashion expert shared a post to Instagram about the roles of ‘power’ following backlash for saying she wants to ‘submit’ to her future husband Jeezy once they are married.

Jeannie admitted she’s a ‘very dominant woman’ but wants to ‘submit to my man,’ comments which shocked fans.

The Dancing With The Stars competitor became engaged to rapper Jeezy in April and was previously married to Freddy Harteis for 10 years.  

‘By giving the power to have someone lead in your life is power in itself,’ she attempted to clarify on Instagram. ‘The power to relinquish control. You ‘willingly submit’ not ‘forcibly submit.”

Jeannie explained on The Real last week that ‘submitting has a negative connotation’ which can at times mean a lesser or lower value.

‘What I really learned in my life for my definition of marriage — I’m a very dominant woman. I own my business, I lead my team … I make the decisions in my life,’ she said. ‘When I come home, I like the idea that my man leads us. 

She added: ‘That doesn’t mean that Jay makes all the decisions for us.’ 

Garcelle Beauvais, Adriene Bailon and Loni Love listened on as she shared her explanation for submitting. 

‘I don’t want to lead in our household or in our marriage. I love that my husband will be the man that leads,’ she said.

‘I like that structure in a marriage and I look forward to that because … girls it’s tiring being the boss of me. It’s tiring leading all the time in my life.’ 

Jeezy — who’s full name is Jay Wayne Jenkins — has three children from previous relationships: Shyheim, 25; Jadarius, 24; and Amra Nor, six.
