‘New Villa. New Islanders’: Channel Nine release new Love Island trailer after confirming the 2021 series would be filmed on the Gold Coast

Channel Nine confirmed last month that Love Island Australia would be returning in 2021 for its third season.

However, the post was actually a promotional clip for the latest Love Island USA season streaming on 9Now.

‘New Villa. New Islanders. @9Now’s dropped another new season of #LoveIslandUSA to keep the party going!’ the cheeky caption read.

Nine’s digital platform 9Now has six seasons of Love Island UK and two seasons of Love Island USA for Australian fans to binge.

With coronavirus restrictions halting overseas travel and production, it was feared that the local version of the reality TV show was going to be axed in Australia.

However, during Nine’s Upfronts in September, the network revealed the series was still going ahead and would be filmed in a villa on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Love Island Australia is produced by ITV Studios Australia, and its previous two seasons were filmed in Spain and Fiji.

There are only two original couples still together from the Australian franchise: season one lovebirds Josh Moss and Amelia Plummer, and season two winners Josh Packham and Anna McEvoy.

It’s unclear if Sophie Monk will be returning as the host of the dating series.

The singer and actress was announced as the new host of reboot Beauty and The Geek in September, but was not confirmed for Love Island Australia.

Casting officially opens in a couple of months, but hopeful Islanders can express their interest early online via mycastingnet.com.
