Chris Rock, 55, reveals he finally learned how to swim while in quarantine amid COVID-19 pandemic

If there’s been one universal silver lining to COVID-19 quarantine, it has to be the newly found time people have had to tackle bucket list endeavors and simple tasks that they have been putting off.

And on Thursday Chris Rock opened up and revealed that he used some of his lockdown time on learning how to swim during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

It turns swimming is just one part of his new exercise regimen, and overall self-examination, that he incorporated into his life in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

The legendary comedian, 55, has made himself, and his thin physique, the butt of many jokes during his legendary career.

But in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rock shed his shirt for a photoshoot and showed off the results of body transformation, which included rock-solid abs.

‘Once I started realizing I had all this time it was like “I got to work on me, what can I do?”‘ Rock confessed to Ellen after she asked him about learning how to swim.

‘And I got an instructor and I finally learned how to swim.’

Rock went on to reveal how he hasn’t been able to take advantage of having a home with a pool because he never learned how to swim as a kid and as an adult.

‘Like I have had a house with a pool for like 20 years and have never been able to swim. But now I can jump into the deep end [and swim}; I know what I’m doing now,’ he said with confidence.

DeGeneres went on to reference Rock’s THR photos to compliment him how good he looks and how his abs ‘look insane’.

‘I’m working out for a movie called Black Baywatch,’ Rock shot back in his quick-witted humorous style.

‘That’s a great idea, you should sell that,’ the host responded.

‘Black Baywatch and I’ll play the Black Hasselhoff,’ Rock added, which was a reference to Baywatch leading man David Hasselhoff, who often had his shirt off in scenes to showcase his toned physique.

In THR interview, Rock attributed his newly found ripped body on the combination of swimming, walking, weight-lifting and cutting out sugar.

He also opened up about how he has been in psychotherapy seven hours a week and how swimming has been the perfect complement to that.

‘Do you know how f***ing hard it is for a grown-up to learn how to swim?” Rock said before confessing, ‘You’ve got to not be scared to die.’

‘The other day, this guy says to me, “OK, you’re going to dive into the deep end and swim to the other side,’ and I’m like, ‘Are you f***ing crazy?’ But then I dove into the deep end and I swam to the other side, and it’s a metaphor for what I’ve been trying to do during this {quarantine} time.’

During the interview Rock also talked about Dave Chappelle’s Intimate Socially Distanced Affair comedy series in a cornfield in Ohio, returning to Saturday Night Live to host the Season 46 premiere, his Netflix comedy special, Chris Rock: Tamborine, and his daughter attending college in Paris,
