An ABC News reporter apologised after accidentally swearing on air TV during a live TV cross on Thursday.

Elias Clure was trying to get his words right as he presented a story about Victoria’s hotel quarantine system.

He tried again for a second time, but unfortunately stumbled on a word, and reacted by dropping the F-bomb.

Back in the studio, ABC news presenter Ros Childs was quick to apologise to viewers for the gaffe.

ABC’s Media Watch shared the clip on Twitter with the caption: ‘Always check the tape.’

Elias also apologised for his on air blunder, saying in a tweet: ‘My sincerest apologies to our great @abcnews viewers!’

He explained: ‘My little moment of frustration was a pre-recorded outtake and never meant to go to air.’

‘However, good lesson for me to NEVER swear in front of an open mic!’

Fellow ABC reporter Michael Rowland defended Elias in a tweet, saying: ‘Give the guy a break. It happens to the best of us.’

It comes after another ABC reporter, Natasha Exelby, was caught daydreaming and playing with her pen during a live ABC News broadcast back in 2017.

Footage of the moment went viral, and she was eventually ‘sacked’ by the public broadcaster.

She is now a reporter with 10 News First in Melbourne.
