‘The stresses of my job led to my divorce’: ABC News Breakfast host Lisa Millar admits she paid the ultimate price for her successful TV career

ABC News Breakfast host Lisa Millar has revealed that her previously long and gruelling hours as a foreign correspondent contributed significantly to her divorce.

Before landing her current coveted position in August 2019, the broadcaster spent 11 years overseas covering major news stories and terrorist attacks in London and Washington DC.

And while the Queensland native has yet to disclose the identity of her ex-husband, she told TV WEEK: ‘I don’t mind saying that I’m divorced and that the stresses of the job would absolutely have been a factor that contributed to that.’

In 2009, Lisa became the ABC’s North American Bureau Chief, and then six years later held the same position at the company’s London Bureau.

Detailing the demise of her marriage as a result of her demanding career, Lisa told the publication that she was with a Frenchman in Washington, DC, for seven years.

‘He moved to London with me, but then we struck a couple years in Europe where it was just so challenging, with all these terrorist attacks and then my dad dying.’

Explaining that she’s moved on, Lisa enthused: ‘Now I’m single, and I feel pretty happy about life!’

However, Lisa revealed she was in no hurry to find a man soon, and dating apps, especially Tinder, were out of the question for her.

Lisa also stated that she is now embracing her slower and more relaxed pace of life in Australia.

Where she couldn’t commit to social plans for years before, she is now able to say yes to tennis games every Monday and happily accepts dinner invites hosted by her friends.

Lisa replaced journalist Virginia Triolo on ABC’s News Breakfast show in August 2019.

At the time of her appointment, Millar, who hails from Kilkivan, a small country town three hours northwest of Brisbane, said she would use her new position to shed light on plights of Australians living in regional communities.

Falling just behind Channel 7’s Sunrise in the weekly ratings, ABC News is one of the nation’s most successful breakfast show.
