Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery was kicked out of acting school

Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery was almost kicked out of acting school THREE times for his ‘arrogance’

He’s the Australian actor who rose to fame starring as troubled school bully Billy Hargrove in the Netflix hit Stranger Things.

And now, Dacre Montgomery has spoken about his rebellious past in an interview with fellow thespian Austin Butler for Netflix Queue.

Dacre, 25, admitted that he struggled to get through his first year at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and was asked to leave the course three times.

‘I had spent so long manifesting this idea that I wanted to go to drama school, and once I was there, I was maybe a little bit arrogant,’ he explained.

Dacre continued: ‘I didn’t want to learn Feldenkrais, I didn’t want to learn these multiple vocal techniques.

‘There was a lot of stuff going on in my life: I got fired from my job, my girlfriend and I went on a break, all this stuff happened at the end of first year.

‘The staff said, “Look, if you want to come back here after the summer, you’ve got to think long and hard about what you’re capable of.”‘

After taking a short break, Dacre returned with a different perspective and attitude.

He said: ‘I came back, and we had our first public plays, and it was amazing.’

Although he found fame as Billy Hargrove in Stranger Things, Dacre has made no secret of his passion for poetry.

Back in April, the actor revealed he had signed a publishing deal.

He is set to release a book of poetry with Andrews McMeel, the same publishing house behind Cody Simpson’s upcoming book.

‘Very excited to share this news with you all!’ Dacre announced on Instagram Stories at the time.

‘I’ve been doing a podcast for over two years. It’s kind of an amalgamation of beat poetry that I’ve been writing for a long time, and I collated into six distinct tracks.’

Dacre, whose as-yet-untitled book will be released later in the year, will also soon star in the The Broken Hearts Gallery, a movie produced by Selena Gomez.
