He thought his boyfriend Austin McKenzie had contracted coronavirus

But Kavin McHale admits what he initially thought was the deadly respiratory disease turned out to be a case of salmonella.

Speaking on Saturday, the Glee! actor, 32, revealed he inadvertently  gave Austin, 26, food poisoning as a result of serving under-cooked chicken sausage, but mistakenly took it for COVID-19 after he became ‘extremely sick’.

COVID mishap: Glee star Kevin McHale revealed on Saturday that his boyfriend, Austin McKenzie was tested twice for coronavirus after becoming ‘extremely sick’

Austin’s illness put the couple on red alert and he subsequently got tested for coronavirus twice, but it was ultimately determined that salmonella from meat was the cause of his illness.

Kevin felt terrible for making his partner ill, as he said on Twitter: ‘But have you undercooked chicken sausage (unintentionally) and then served it to your bf and then he got superrrrr sick and you thought it was covid and you got tested twice but nah you just fed him salmonella?

‘He should break up with me. I would.’

Cooking contamination: Despite thinking that Austin had COVID-19, the actor, 32, revealed that his boyfriend in fact contracted salmonella from eating undercooked chicken.

Austin replied with a screenshot of a Google search that said: ‘How to get revenge on your husband,’ and added the caption: ‘Just doin’ some light research’.

He followed up by updating his Twitter biography and said: ‘I left Twitter years ago. I’m back on now to monitor my thirsty boyfriend, Kevin Mchale, who ‘accidentally’ gave me salmonella 5 days ago.’

Kevin responded with ‘omg’ in regards to his beau’s changed Twitter profile and continued to joke about intentionally ‘poisoning’ him.

The Glee! actor made light of the situation on Twitter, a stark contrast to last month when he commented on the death of his beloved co-star Naya Rivera.

His former co-star was found dead in Lake Piru after she disappeared during a boat trip with her four-year-old son, Josey last month.

After several days of searching, her body was found, no foul play was suspected and her passing was determined to be a result of drowning.

Kevin shared some touching comments regarding the actress and said that he felt the late Cory Monteith was guiding authorities to finding her body.

Cory starred as the lead male, Finn Hudson, in Glee! and was a co-star to both Kevin and Naya.

He unfortunately passed away in 2013 as a result of combined drug intoxication, and Kevin felt that he was a guardian angel watching over Naya following her tragic death.

Writing on Twitter, Kevin noted: ‘I’m not religious by any means, but you’d be hard-pressed to convince me that Cory didn’t help find our girl today.

‘These 2, in many ways, were the male and female versions of one another. So nice, cared deeply, were stupidly talented, the most fun, and really really good people.’
