Who’ll find love on our virtual date? This week it’s Pam, 34, and Gary, 30,

Pam, 34, (pictured) has been single for six years and has an 11-year-old son

PAM, 34,

Dating past?

I’ve been single since splitting with my son’s father. I’ve done some online dating, but nothing serious has come of that.

Some men shower you with attention, then ghost you. It’s rather baffling.

Pre-date nerves?

I felt so nervous. I put on a navy dress and did my make-up as I would if we had been meeting in person.

First impressions?

Vital Statistics

Single for six years, with an 11-year-old son.

Current Role

Business consultant.

Would like to meet

Someone honest and open. A good sense of humour is very important, and I certainly wouldn’t want to date anyone who was a real party animal.

I was pleasantly surprised. Gary said his hair had grown so much in lockdown. He sent me a photo of his pre-Covid hairstyle before the date to reassure me about what he normally looks like. I was expecting shoulder-length, shaggy hair, but he looked well-groomed and handsome.

Easy to talk to?

We were both nervous at first but, after we’d settled in, we chatted until nearly midnight.

We talked about what our children mean to us — and how we’re both turning into Disney+ streaming addicts because of them.

I’d never seen Top Gun and Gary said I would love it. I’ve since watched it, and I did.

He has a great sense of humour. Neither of us is scared to laugh at ourselves and I find that a great quality in people.

We both like to keep active — but while I’m learning yoga, he does a fair amount of base jumping. I’m scared of heights, so maybe he can cure me of that.

Embarrassing moments?

there weren’t really any.

If we’d been on a real date, he said he would have kissed me

Did sparks fly?

Pam’s verdict: 9/10

Liked? He’s a perfect match.

Regrets? Only that we can’t see each other soon.

See him again? Yes.

I definitely fancied him — his Irish accent sealed the deal. We were both flirting and I think it was obvious we were attracted to one another. He said he was sad when our date ended and that, if we were on a real date, he would have asked to kiss me. I would have said yes.

Would you like to meet him in person?

yes. we’ve carried on the conversation since the date. He’s even researched how to get to where I live.

What do you think he thought of you?

He told me he was attracted to me, which is always lovely to hear.

Would you introduce him to your family?

He would get on with my family, and bond well with my brother-in-law, who is also adventurous.

GARY, 30,

Dating past?

I was in a happy seven-year relationship, but our lives went separate ways a year ago. It was an amicable enough break-up and we are now friends.

I find dating hard work, though. I have a busy and active lifestyle and I want to be certain that meeting someone wouldn’t affect my four-year-old daughter.

Pre-date nerves?

Surprisingly, yes — I don’t get nervous very often. I think it was because I knew nothing about her. I got fresh food from the butcher’s for our date. I wore my favourite orange top and a pair of comfy shorts.

Vital Statistics

Single for a year, with a four-year-old daughter.

Current Role

Skydiving instructor and cameraman.

Would like to meet

I’m energetic and adventurous, so I need someone who has goals, drive and determination. I may also need to be put in my place from time to time.

I was relieved at once, as she was lovely with a great big smile. I think she was wearing a white blouse and her skin was glowing.

Easy to talk to?

I can’t believe she had never watched my favourite movie, Top Gun, but she promised to rectify that. We also chatted about our children — it’s a lot easier to date another parent.

As for her fear of heights, I think I can cure that by throwing her out of a plane!

I spent eight years in the British Army travelling the world, and I served in Afghanistan. She told me about her business — it takes bravery to run your own company and I admire that.

Embarrassing moments?

There were none, though I did show her my tattoos later in the evening.

Did sparks fly?

There was definitely flirting going on. I think we both felt an attraction. Even though it’s not easy to assess a spark online, I’m keen to meet up. I could have chatted to her for hours.

I’d cure her fear of heights by jumping with her out of a plane

Would you like to meet her in person?

Gary’s Verdict: 9/10

Liked? Her personality, smile and easy-going nature.

Regrets? None.

See her again? Yes.

Definitely. I’d like to see how it develops. She has a big personality and is funny.

What do you think she thought of you?

to use her words, she thought I was funny and good-looking. She might have felt that I’m a bit wild, but hopefully that didn’t put her off.

Would you introduce her to your family?

My family are like me, so she’d get on with them.
