Kourtney Kardashian hits back as fans criticize her keto diet

Kourtney Kardashian HITS BACK at fans criticizing her for going on the keto diet: ‘Thank you for your concern’

She announced earlier this week that she was going on the low-carb, high-fat keto diet.

On Thursday, Kourtney Kardashian pushed back against social media followers criticizing her for the diet plan – which is known to cause some possibly dangerous side effects – in her Instagram Stories.

The 41-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star shared another photo of her glucose meter and explained the diet was just a temporary step and prescribed by her doctor.

‘And to all of you who are saying keto is unhealthy, my dr. has me do it for brief periods to help detox metals or toxins, so I would not recommend this without checking with you dr. first,’ Kourtney wrote.

‘But my dr. I trust puts me on it and I personally love it.’

The keto diet (short for ketogenesis) involves drastically reducing one’s carbohydrate intake while simultaneously increasing fat intake.

The lack of carbs can kickstart a metabolic process called ketosis, in which fat is burned more efficiently.

Pushing back: Kourtney defended herself by saying her doctor recommended going on the keto diet temporarily. She also said she monitored her blood glucose levels for safety

Though most doctors and dietitians agree that diets (including keto) can help loose weight in the short term, there’s less consensus about the long-term health impact of a keto diet, and some experts warn of the diets potential impacts on blood sugar and heart health.

‘This number goes crazy,’ Kourtney continued, referring to her glucose meter.

‘And diabetes does run in my family and my dr. also has me check my glucose levels while doing keto for those questioning that too…thank you for all your concern,’ she wrote.

She also added in a sarcastic jab to one critic in particular.

‘To the one who said I should let you know that I am not a dietitian, you are correct, sorry if anyone thought that was my profession,’ wrote the reality star.

The day before, Kourtney had shared a snap of her finger with a prick of blood on it after she tested her blood sugar.

‘After two days of eating “keto” I am in ketosis (.5) … may the fat burning begin,’ she wrote.

Later on Thursday, Kourtney shared a link to her Insta Stories with some of her helpful tips for making the keto diet work.
