Pete Evans goes surfing in Melbourne ‘before they shut the borders down’ as COVID-19 spikes in the city

Pete Evans won’t let a pandemic keep him from hitting the waves.

The former My Kitchen Rules star headed out to Australia’s first public surf park, Urbn Surf, in Melbourne on Monday.

The 47-year-old shared a number of photos to Facebook in which he was dressed in a wetsuit and surfing a large swell like a pro.

Pete explained in the comment alongside the photos: ‘So good to get a few of these today before they shut the borders down.’ 

The former TV star appeared unconcerned about the recent spike in COVID-19 infections in the area as Victoria battles a second wave.

The unexpected spike risks other states refusing to open their borders as planned, having closed back in March to stop the virus spreading.

Victoria recorded 17 cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, 11 of which are from an unknown source, marking its 17th consecutive day of double-digit infections.   

Residents could soon face mandatory lockdown in six local government districts, Victorian health minister Jenny Mikakos revealed.    

Pete recently revealed that he had been flouting the social distancing guidelines in place at the time, and embracing his elderly mother Joy every time he sees her.

In a Mother’s Day post, the controversial chef wrote: ‘We love you mum. Happy MUM day and thank you for being you and also a rebel in your own right. 

‘I will continue to give you a hug and a kiss every single f$&@’n time I see you like I have over the last few months (unless YOU say no).’

He went on to explain the photo: ‘This was the other day when mum really needed a hug from her grandchildren’.
