Shares in Cineworld soar 22.5% after cinemas are told they can reopen in England on July 4

Shares in Cineworld rose 22.5 per cent after cinemas were told they could reopen in England from July 4.

Screens have been closed since March due to the pandemic and Cineworld and Picturehouse cinemas had planned to reopen on July 10.

Cineworld, which has about 100 cinemas around the UK, has said it has updated its booking system to ensure social distancing, and has adapted its schedules to manage queues and avoid crowds in lobbies.

It has enhanced cleanliness and sanitation procedures.

Cineworld said: ‘We will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all our visitors and we remain committed to being the best place to watch a movie.’

Proxima, starring Eva Green, is due out on July 10, and road rage thriller Unhinged, starring Russell Crowe, is released on July 17.

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, starring Robert Pattinson and John David Washington, is due out at the end of July. 

Guidelines were agreed between the UK Cinema Association and the Government.
