New housemates are left in metal cage for THREE HOURS in hot sun

Big Brother’s cruelest challenge yet: New housemates are left in a metal cage for THREE HOURS in the hot sun in exchange for $150 shopping budget

Four new housemates arrived at the Big Brother compound on Wednesday’s episode in a metal cage suspended by a crane.

And in what could be the cruelest challenge yet, they were left hanging there on a hot Sydney day for three hours as part of an endurance challenge.

In exchange for a $150 shopping budget, the original housemates let the newcomers swelter in their cage, which was elevated just a few feet off the ground.

Shane Vincent, Hannah Campbell, Soobong Hwang and Danni Keogh were ready to climb out of the cage when the other housemates were faced with a dilemma.

Big Brother announced over the loudspeaker that the new housemates were unwitting players in a shopping budget challenge.

‘For every hour you leave the new housemates in their cage, you will be rewarded $50 towards your shopping budget,’ they said.

As the housemates had been living off basic rations for several days, their immediate reaction was to keep the latecomers locked away for as long as possible in exchange for luxury food items.

‘Leave ’em,’ former AFL player Daniel Gorringe yelled, as Casey Mazzucchell explained to them: ‘We’ve got no food. We need to leave you in there.’

Angela Clancy, who had been in tears earlier in the day over the lack of teabags in the house, added: ‘I need tea!’

Feeling sorry for the four intruders, Sarah McDougal suggested: ‘If you need to pee, we’ll get a bucket.’

'It's getting too hot': The newcomers complained about the heat and used hats and towels to shield themselves from the sun, while their co-stars lounged in their swimwear by the pool

Two hours in, Hannah stopped talking because she needed to focus on holding her bladder, saying she was ‘busting’.

Shane also complained about the fact he was sweating through his black jeans.

Angela said at the three-hour mark: ‘It’s getting too hot, even Hannah is not talking anymore.’ Casey agreed, adding: ‘It’s way too hot.’

Ian Joass asked his fellow housemates if they were willing to consider putting the newcomers out of their misery.

Once they had earned $150 for their groceries, Daniel told Big Brother in the diary room they had agreed to ‘release’ the four captives.

After fleeing the cage, Hannah bolted to the bathroom to relieve herself.
