Prince’s estate celebrates the late singer’s 62nd birthday with a timely handwritten message about intolerance

The iconic musician Prince would be celebrating his 62nd birthday today, with the late singer’s estate sharing a timely message about intolerance.

The official Prince Instagram shared an image of a handwritten note that Prince (real name Prince Rogers Nelson) kept in his own personal archives.

The note is a timely one, showing how the iconic musician, who passed away in April 2016 at the age of 57, spoke out against intolerance.

‘Prince dedicated his life to speaking out against injustice, advocating for black excellence, and spreading the message of “Love 4 One Another”‘ the statement began.

‘In this note that he kept in his personal archives, he wrote a message that still resonates today,’ the statement added.

The hand written note reads, ‘Nothing more ugly in the whole wide world than INTOLERANCE (between) Black, white, red, yellow, boy or girl. INTOLERANCE,’ with the hashtags #Love4OneAnother #Prince.

Prince’s estate (via Prince YouTube) also released a new music video for his song Baltimore, off the last record released when he was alive, 2015’s HITnRUN Phase Two.

The song was written after the 2015 death of Freddie Gray,a 25-year-old black man from Baltimore, which sparked protests, riots and outrage.

‘The system is broken. It’s going to take the young people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life,’ Prince said in a quote about the song from his Instagram page.

The video, directed by Ralston Smith and featuring Eryn Allen Kane, is set against footage from the Baltimore protests that were sparked by Grey’s death, after sustaining injuries while being transported by police following his arrest.

While none of the officers were convicted of a crime, the city of Baltimore reached a $6.4 million settlement with the Grey family.

Prince released his penultimate album HITnRUN Phase One in September 2015 with the final album HITnRUN Phase Two dropping in December 2015.

The singer passed away in April 2016 at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Two posthumous albums have been released, Piano and a Microphone 1983 in 2018 and Originals in 2019.
