EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn admits her fitness ‘took a back seat’ during filming after revealing her one stone weight loss

Katie McGlynn has revealed her health and fitness ‘took a back seat’ during filming for Coronation Street, after unveiling her one stone weight loss earlier this year.

The actress, 26, exclusively told MailOnline she’s built herself a home gym during  lockdown after vowing to get healthier after leaving the soap last year.

Katie showed off her one stone weight loss earlier this year after completing a 12-week transformation challenge, which included increasing her activities to walking 12,000 steps a day.

Speaking to MailOnline, Katie said: ‘I just wanted to be healthier really, I kind of let my health and fitness take a back seat when I was filming because I was heavily filming all the time.

‘I just put on some weight and I noticed I wasn’t feeling very healthy. I wanted to kick-start my health basically, so yeah I felt amazing for it, I’m glad I’ve done it.

‘I think your health’s important. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been eating more than I normally do, and I have put a bit of weight on, I think everybody has! But I make sure I’m training all the time, I’m active, just so it’s still going round.’

Katie added that during the COVID-19 lockdown she’s set up a home gym to try and maintain her fitness regime, after a majority of her work commitments were placed on hold during the crisis.

She told MailOnline: ‘I make sure I go for a walk everyday that’s super important, and I’ve recently just got some weights delivered because it took so long.

‘But I finally got my weights, I’ve got a little gym set up, I’ve been trying to work out. I’m just trying different things to keep occupied, but I think the main thing is to have structure.’

Earlier this year Katie revealed the results of her weight loss, after undertaking a 12-week fitness programme with at Ultimate Performance in Manchester.

Along with ensuring she undertook at least 15,000 steps a day, Katie also maintained a simple diet of fibre-rich vegetables and healthy fats.

The star chatted to MailOnline following the news that she’s been nominated for a BAFTA Award, following her heart-wrenching final scenes as Sinead Tinker, which saw her tragically lose her battle with cervical cancer.

Katie will battle it out to win Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment, which is the only BAFTA voted for by the general public.
