Peter Andre says fan demanded selfie amid social distancing

Peter Andre revealed he recently had a dispute with a fan who demanded he forget the social distancing rules and have a selfie with him.

Speaking in his latest new! magazine column, the singer, 47, recalled an incident where a delivery man dropped off a package at his home.

Peter told how he felt ‘rude’ for having to refuse the man who urged him to flout the government guidelines and join him for a picture.

Explaining the altercation, Peter said: ‘Someone who delivered a parcel to my house asked for a selfie and I said, “OK, but we’ll have to do it by social distancing.”

‘He went, “Nah, don’t be stupid, come on.” And I said, “No”.’

However, the Mysterious Girl singer admitted that though the fan was wrong, he understood his confusion over the government’s ‘Stay Alert’ message and  relaxing of social distancing measures.

He continued: ‘It was the first time I’d ever felt like I was being rude to someone who asked for something, but at the same time I thought, “Mate, do you not understand?”

‘The thing is, the rules are unclear, so maybe some people don’t get it since the advice changed from ‘Stay at home’ to ‘Stay alert’.’

Meanwhile, Peter admitted he followed his wife Emily’s wishes to send their daughter Amelia, six, back to school despite wanting to keep her home longer himself.

The star explained that as his wife, 30, is a doctor, he followed her advice, adding that Amelia was ‘desperate’ to go back after weeks spent at home during lockdown.

Writing in his column, Peter said: ‘The kids went back to school this week and Emily and I had different views on whether Millie should go back too. But Emily is a doctor and if she thinks it’s OK, then I’m going with that.

‘If it was down to me, I’d have them at home for a bit longer, but Millie is desperate to go back. The worry is that kids don’t understand social distancing.’

Peter said it will be difficult for him and Emily to explain to the children they can no longer hug people amid the pandemic.

He wrote: ‘We’re the kind of parents who say to them, “when you see people, give them a hug”. Now all of a sudden it’s like, “you can’t”.’

Peter added that he understands why some parents will have decided not to send their children back to school just yet.

The Insania singer and his other half are also parents to son Theodore, three, while Peter is also father to Junior, 14, and Princess Tiaamii, 12, with his ex Katie Price.

It comes after Emily said it was time for ‘life to get going again’ and that she felt positive about her daughter going back to education.

Writing in her OK! magazine column, she said: ‘Millie is excited and I feel really positive about it. Pete is going to be doing the school run while I am at work and he is a bit worried about her going back but I said we will review it as we go along.

‘Her safety and well-being are my absolute priority like every parent so if there is any hint that things aren’t going well or if there is another spike in infections then we can take her out.’
