Some 6,000 small businesses apply for the Mail’s £5m free advertising fund

The Mail’s scheme was hailed by both the Chancellor Rishi Sunak and small business minister Paul Scully

Around 6,000 small businesses have applied for a slice of the Daily Mail group’s multi-million pound free advertising fund.

Last week Daily Mail General Trust (DMGT) launched the £3million scheme to provide 1,000 firms with advertising packages worth £3,000.

The move by the newspaper group to help struggling companies was hailed by both the Chancellor Rishi Sunak and small business minister Paul Scully.

Applications opened on Wednesday last week and thousands of companies applied. As a result, DMGT has now increased the fund to £5million and pledged to help 1,500 firms.

Small business owners last week told Money Mail how the fund could provide a ‘lifeline’ to firms hit badly by the coronavirus crunch.

The scheme, run in partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses, was open to businesses that have been established for more than six months, employ less than 150 employees, and have a turnover of less than £6million a year.

Applications are now closed. The fund was launched following the creation of our Mail Force charity which has raised more than £8million to deliver vital protective equipment to NHS and care workers.

The first adverts will now run in the Daily Mail next Wednesday.
