Police seal off Christchurch beach after woman’s body is discovered on the sand

  • Body was found on beach in Christchurch, Dorset at 5.30am yesterday
  • Beach is cordoned off while a white tent was erected over woman’s body 
  • Police declared woman was dead but treating incident as ‘non-suspicious’ 

Police have sealed off part of a Dorset beach after a woman’s body was discovered on the sand early yesterday morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the body was found at around 5.30am on the sand at Avon Beach in Christchurch.

A section of the beach and promenade was cordoned off by police. They declared the woman dead while a white tent was erected over the body.

A police spokesman later confirmed the death was not being treated as suspicious as officers work to confirm the woman’s identity.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: ‘We received a report that the body of a woman had been found at Avon Beach near Christchurch.

‘Officers attended along with the ambulance service and sadly it was confirmed the woman had died.

‘Enquiries are ongoing to confirm the woman’s identity and inform her next of kin.

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious.’
