Tones And I reveals working with Macklemore was ‘the biggest thing that’s ever happened’ to her

She exploded onto the scene in 2019 with her hit single, Dance Monkey.

And Toni ‘Tones and I’ Watson has shared her excitement after reaching another career milestone – working with her idol, Macklemore.  

Speaking to the Gold Coast Bulletin on Sunday, Tones revealed that she recently wrote two songs with the American rapper, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, 

‘That’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me, meeting Macklemore,’ the Dance Monkey singer gushed.  

Macklemore got in touch with the Australian singer back in February after he watched her show in Seattle.  

‘He ended up asking me to come back to Seattle and wanted to record with me, we wrote two songs together, Tones explained, adding: ‘From when I got there to when I left he was like a big brother.’ 

The former busker went on to explain that she’s turned down every collaboration offer since finding fame. 

However, when Macklemore came knocking, Tones knew it was time to finally say yes. 

It comes after Tones told The Industry Observer last week that Macklemore’s music had a huge impact on her life over the years.

‘Anything that I was ever feeling, there was the Macklemore song for me. And I’ve cried to his music. I’ve been so motivated, inspired by his music. I’ve ran kilometres with his music,’ she said.  

‘For me to be a stranger to him at the start, and then to become friends with him and to write with him… I just didn’t think that was possible in my lifetime,’ she cooed. 

Tones is set to feature in a song on Macklemore’s new album, while the rapper is set to appear on her debut album, due in August.
