Craig Revel-Horwood reveals he scuppered fiancé Jonathan’s proposal and says Strictly bosses have ‘contingency plans’ in place to bring show back

Craig Revel-Horwood has revealed how he ruined his fiancé Jonathan Myring’s romantic proposal during an appearance on Lorraine on Wednesday.

The Strictly judge, 55, confirmed his engagement to horticulturalist Jonathan, 35, in April, shortly after the couple returned their Hampshire home following a trip to his native Australia.

Craig said: ‘I did scupper it. Jonathan was saying “let’s go down to the river to the waterfall to see the platypus”.

Oh dear: Craig Revel-Horwood revealed how he ruined his fiancé Jonathan Myring’s romantic proposal during an appearance on Lorraine on Wednesday

‘The last time we did that, there were no sandwiches or wine and we were there for four hours.

‘He had made a picnic for the proposal. But I said “no I’m absolutely exhausted, I want to have a bath and we can go for dinner after” and when I went for a bath, he jumped in and proposed.’

To which Lorraine replied: ‘Your wedding is going to be so glittery and sparkly.’

Craig said: ‘We want to have it here. The lockdown has been good for us.

We’ve been looking out at the garden and thinking what can we do it to make it a wedding venue. How many people can we sit down for a meal? At least I’ve got something to do.’

Lorraine went on to quiz the dance choreographer: ‘Strictly is going to take place isn’t it?’

Whoops: Craig said: 'I did scupper it. Jonathan was saying "let's go down to the river to the waterfall to see the platypus"

Craig replied: ‘Fingers crossed, obviously. There are ways about it of course.

‘Yes we want to see it back, there is a contingency plan in place with producers to bring it back to the nation. It’s such a wonderful show.

‘We’re keeping our fingers crossed. I’m pretty much sure it is going to happen.

‘Outside broadcasts all different ways you can get around this coronavirus.

Funny: 'He had made a picnic. But I said no "I'm absolutely exhausted, I want to have a bath and we can go for dinner after" and when I went for a bath, he jumped in and proposed'

‘Not all dances mean you can dance together, contemporary, street, Charleston you all dance side-by-side.

‘It’s BBC One flagship show, they do not want to let the people down. Fingers crossed. We want to do it.’

Craig was previously married to wife Jane for two and a half years; the former couple exchanged vows in 1990 when he was 25 and she was 30.

But he recently admitted the marriage collapsed after he caught her in bed with another man.

‘Time was ticking. She wanted to have children and I thought, “Well, this is a really good opportunity,”‘ he told the Daily Mail in 2019. ‘I was both gay and straight, so being bisexual, it wasn’t a big issue for me or her.’
