Sam Smith is in high spirits as they embark on their daily exercise

They’ve been openly documenting their struggles about living during the lockdown.

But Sam Smith appeared to be in much better spirits as they embarked on their daily exercise in London on Saturday.

The singer, 27, cut a relaxed figure in an oversized white shirt and loose trousers as they ran into a friend who was driving on the adjoining road.

Out and about: Sam Smith was in high spirits on Saturday as they embarked on their daily exercise during the coronavirus lockdown

Sam happily displayed their laid-back sense of style as they enjoyed the low-key outing with a hot drink in hand.

The Stay With Me hitmaker appeared to recognise a friend who was driving nearby, and stopped to talk to them through the window, ensured they were adhering to social distancing.

Sam appeared to be completely focused on their music during the walk as they opted for the loose-fitting striped shirt and baggy blue jeans.

Despite the spirited outing, Sam has spoken openly about struggling with life in lockdown, and admitted last month they’re ‘freaking out’ about being single during the crisis.

It came after their last relationship with actor Brandon Flynn, 26, ended in 2018, and Sam went onto say they’ve turned to dating apps since the lockdown restrictions were imposed.

Speaking on SiriusXM, they said: ‘For the first two weeks I was like “oh my God I’m single”. I went on this dating thing and it was the worst!

‘And then you get attached to guys, and then you’re forming quarantine relationships over the phone, it’s a dangerous path…’

Sam also revealed they want to date an older man after scouting for matches on the exclusive dating app Raya.

They said: ‘I think I want to be with someone older now. I need someone who has passions and has their own drive.

‘It’s nice to be able to date on your phone. I haven’t done it in years – I just want the romance.’

Sam previously admitted they were hit hard by the pain of the break-up from Brandon and said they felt at their lowest when touring.

Sam said: ‘Being on tour is a bit of a crazy experience, I get really low sometimes on tour.

‘I feel like I sound so depressing all the time when I talk about it, but I get depressed on tour. I think it’s the responsibly and pressure that makes me struggle.’

It comes after the singer drew sharp criticism for looking upset in an Instagram post as they self-isolated in their £12 million mansion and captioned the snaps: ‘stages of a quarantine meltdown’.

Speaking to Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Breakfast, Sam insisted the post was intended as a joke and added it didn’t get ‘picked up very well’.

They said: ‘It was six weeks ago I posted a picture and everyone else was posting pictures. It was probably bad timing of me, but I use my social media as if it’s just my friends on it.

‘I posted with my humour and stuff, but it just didn’t get picked up very well, but I didn’t mean any malice by it at all.’
