He raised eyebrows when he began dating a woman 46 years his junior in 2014.

And Jimmy Page’s girlfriend has admitted she had to get over a ‘sense of shame’ when she sparked up a romance with the twice-married former Led Zeppelin guitarist, 76.

In a new interview with Tatler, Scarlett Sabet, 30, said while the pair are in an ‘amazing relationship’ six years on, at the beginning she felt like her ‘life was going to be over; as she struggled with the assumptions made about them.

She said: ‘It’s funny because on paper there is a massive difference. But when he’s standing in front of me, it’s not something I feel. It’s not something that impedes us.

‘I guess some people will say I’ve made an unusual choice. At the time it felt very uncomfortable. I felt like my life was going to be over. I had such a sense of shame about the whole thing.’

The couple began dating after Page stopped to listen to Scarlett’s poetry reading at a London bookshop.

Discussing the evening, she said: ‘I was filled with adrenaline. Everyone was silent, and as I finished, I moved into the crowd.

The rock icon, who is worth an estimated £135 million,  then approached her and said quietly: ‘Your poems cut like a knife.’

Scarlett said: ‘I thought, “Oh wow”. He’s who he is and he’s just said that. I remember walking home and it sounds so cheesy, but I actually cried.’

The beauty, who lives with the iconic musician at his gothic Grade I-listed home in Holland Park, west London, said she feels lucky to have ‘beautiful’ Page in her life.

She said: ‘I’m in an amazing relationship. I think a lot of people make assumptions but Jimmy’s an exceptional man, and beautiful. There are a lot of women of all ages who are excited to meet him.

 ‘And I feel lucky, he really is my best friend and the person who makes me laugh the most.’ 

The musician, who split from his second wife Jimena Gómez-Paratcha in 2008, was first seen with Scarlett at high street chicken restaurant Nando’s.

Despite being known for maintaining his privacy, sources told the Daily Mail at the time they were stunned by his new romance.

‘Everyone was quite surprised by this,’ an insider said. ‘The thing about Jimmy though is that he won’t say a word about his private life – he never has.’

However in 2015, a source had revealed that Jimmy was delighted with the ordinary life he leads with Scarlett, after years in the spotlight.

They told The Sun: ‘Jimmy is leading a very conventional life by the looks of things, not very rock’n’roll. His new girlfriend seems a very normal kind of girl.’

Page’s eldest daughter, coincidentally called Scarlet, is 18 years older than his girlfriend.
