A man’s teeth cleaning routine has gone viral thanks to a TikTok video shared by his wife – and his method has been praised by dental experts.

Most of us combine flossing, brushing and mouthwash when we clean our teeth before going to bed, usually in that order.

But TikTik user Kassy, a biology teacher who is based in Texas, claims her husband follows a strict four-step regime which sees him use an alcohol mouthwash before giving his pearly whites a floss.

She explained how he then goes on to brush his teeth and finishes off with a flouride whitening rinse.

TikTik user Kassy, a biology teacher who lives in Texas, claims her husband follows a strict four-step regime which sees him using an alcohol mouthwash before flossing

Speaking on the video, which has notched up 2.7million views on the platform, Kassy said: ‘My husband has been keeping a secret from me.

‘He says that the right way to brush your teeth is to first rinse with an alcohol mouthwash, then to floss, then to brush your teeth and then to use a fluoride rinse.

‘He says if you do the alcohol mouthwash last it’ll remove the fluoride that you just put on your teeth by brushing them, so you should do it first to kill the germs and then finish off with a whitening fluoride rinse.

‘Apparently the last time he went to the dentist, the hygienist told him he didn’t even really need a cleaning.

‘I was today years old and I’ve got terrible teeth.’

Writing on TikTik yesterday, Kassy added: ‘I seriously had a root canal on Monday and he’s just now sharing this info.’

The video has been liked more than 628,800 times and attracted over 2,330 comments, with many claiming this routine is a game-changer as they believed you should floss before using mouthwash.

One TikTok user asked: ‘Why don’t they say this when you go to the dentist?

Another commented: ‘OMG that lowkey makes perfect sense,’ while another moaned: ‘Why do I do everything wrong?’

And one praised: ‘I legit just did the first three steps because I don’t have a fluoride mouthwash but dang does my mouth feel CLEAN.’

Several dental experts also contributed to the thread and backed up Kassy’s husband’s method.

One wrote: ‘I’m a dental hygienist and he’s correct,’ and another claimed: ‘Dental hygienist here and I approve.’

Just to add some confusion, Kassy shared a follow-up video to her TikTok by Dr M – aka Suhail Mohiuddin – in which he claimed you don’t need to do the first mouthwash step unless you have bleeding gums.

Dr M then recommended brushing for two minutes, followed by flossing, followed by a flouride mouthwash – which he stressed is the most important step.

‘Take a capful, rinse for 30 seconds, and then you spit, but don’t rinse with water for at least five minutes,’ he said. ‘I would do this twice a day, especially at night.’
