GMB’s Dr Hilary Jones mocks Donald Trump’s idea to inject people with disinfectant

‘I’ve heard some crazy things in my life but this is probably one of the craziest’: GMB’s Dr Hilary Jones mocks Donald Trump’s idea to inject people with disinfectant or blast them with light to beat coronavirus

  • Donald Trump suggested injecting people with disinfectant to fight coronavirus
  • Dr Hilary Jones called the president ‘completely and utterly crazy’ to suggest this
  • He said it stems from ‘Trump thinking sunlight emits from parts of his body’
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

Dr Hilary Jones has hit out at Donald Trump‘s ‘crazy’ idea of injecting people with disinfectant to beat coronavirus.

Homeland security official William Bryan had briefed the US president about new tests that showed increased levels of sunlight, ultraviolet rays, and humidity caused the coronavirus to die off in a reduced period of a time.

Mr Trump then proposed virus treatments at Thursday’s White House press briefing including the use of ultraviolet rays and injections of cleaning agents into patients.

‘I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do something like that? By injection inside or almost a cleaning?’ Mr Trump had asked.

On Good Morning Britain this morning, Dr Hilary called the president ‘completely and utterly crazy to even suggest this’.

‘I’ve heard some crazy things in my life but this is probably one of the craziest,’ Dr Hilary said, adding that it would cause inflammation of human tissue.

'It sounds interesting to me,' Trump said Thursday, telling reporters he queried an official about whether cleaning agents could be injected into patients to fight the coronavirus

‘Secondly, his other suggestion was to use the power of sunshine… it is true that the virus decays outside of the human body in ultraviolet sun… how could you get sunlight into the human body?

‘I think all of this probably stems from president Trump thinking sunlight emits from parts of his body.’

Agents that are commonly used to kill the virus in the environment, bleach and isopropyl alcohol, are both toxic to the body when ingested.

President Trump’s remarks had caused #Dettol to trend on Twitter, with social media users mocking his remarks.

William Bryan, an acting homeland security official, had briefed the president, and later reporters, about new tests that showed how increased levels of sunlight, ultraviolet rays, and humidity causing the coronavirus to die off in a reduced period of a time.

‘Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light? And I think you said, that hasn’t been checked but you’re going to test it,’ Trump asked him Thursday evening.

‘And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. Sounds interesting,’ Trump said.

Trump, who noted he is not a doctor, did not guarantee results on his line of inquiry about a possible treatment.

‘So we’ll see. But the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute  –that’s pretty powerful,’ he said.
