Rapper Fred The Godson, known for the hit song Doves Fly, dies from COVID-19 at 35 after asking fans to think of him: ‘Keep me in y’all prayers!’
Rapper Fred The Godson has reportedly passed away in New York City at the age of 35.
The star from the South Bronx in New York had been suffering from COVID-19 and recently took to Instagram to ask fans to pray for him. To make matters even more complicated, he suffered from asthma and had problems with his kidneys.
The musician – also known as Gordo – was best known as an MC who worked on the songs Toast To That and Doves Fly.

According to the CDC, ‘People with moderate to severe asthma may be at higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19. COVID-19 can affect your respiratory tract (nose, throat, lungs), cause an asthma attack, and possibly lead to pneumonia and acute respiratory disease.’
News of his passing first broke after DJ Self posted it on his Instagram page: ‘Was loved by many never heard one bad thing about you RIP @fredthegodsonmusic Sleep Well my brother,’ according to Power1051.
The star had been in a New York hospital for weeks before friends told TMZ that he had died from the virus.
He first alerted fans in March that he had gotten sick.
Earlier this month: On April 1 he was seen on the street with a mask on apparently in good health. ‘Good morning y’all! Through it all we all are still “BLESSED” hope I all have a blessed Wednesday! #godisgreat’
He left behind a wife, LeAnn Jemmott, who had been keeping fans updated on his condition. She has yet to comment on his passing.
In early April she said that doctors had been slowly taking him off his ventilator.
It’s unclear if he was ever released from the hospital, the site added.
