But the UK European Consumer Centre (UK ECC) says it can help reclaim fees or obtain vouchers for future bookings.

It notes it has seen a surge in queries from anxious travellers trying to claim refunds.

Andy Allen, service director at UK ECC, says: ‘Sadly, many hotels are refusing either refunds or rebooking. I advise consumers in this situation to contact us.’
