Osher Günsberg reveals what’s it been like filming The Bachelor in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic… and finally explains his morbid whisper whenever a suitor is sent home

This year’s season of The Bachelor will look very different thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview with Mumbrellacast on Thursday, host Osher Günsberg spoke about the precautions that had to be put into place to ensure the safety of the show’s cast.

The 46-year-old veteran TV host also explained the morbid whisper he employs whenever a suitor is sent home.

‘I know that people pay me out a lot for whispering, but that is genuinely my voice when I am trying to have empathy with a person who I am essentially breaking up with on behalf of somebody else,’ he explained.

Osher said he used the same voice when he had to tell the show’s cast about the coronavirus pandemic, forcing them to temporarily shut down production.

‘At that moment, when I had to let everybody know that the borders are closed… the entire state’s in lockdown, people you love and care about will definitely be affected by what I’m telling you, that was really tough,’ he admitted.

Describing it as being a ‘really weird’ experience, Osher said Network 10 and Warner Bros. have been doing everything they can to keep the show’s cast and crew ‘safe’.

‘They work so hard! They jump through flaming hoops covered in hand sanitiser to make sure that we could make a show that involves people pashing during a global pandemic,’ he continued.

And while this year’s Bachelor may not look like past seasons, Osher is convinced viewers will love the new format.

He said past seasons of the show involved an element of ‘fantasy’, with over-the-top dates, whereas this year’s series will be grounded in reality.

‘We have to help them find love using the same tools that everybody else has, which is in many cases a webcam, or even just a camera on your phone,’ he explained.
