MasterChef Australia stars are left ‘shocked’ by revelations one of the contestants has a child none of them knew about

There are 24 returning stars on MasterChef Australia: Back to Win.

But rumour has it the cast and producers were surprised to discover one of the contestants had a child none of them knew about.

A source told New Idea magazine: ‘No one is really sure why it was never mentioned or why it was relevant, but it came as a shock to everyone.’

The insider claimed that producers had thoroughly researched each competitor to make sure they were all ‘squeaky clean’. 

But they didn’t unearth the fact one of them had a child, which suggests the mystery chef likes to keep their personal life under wraps.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel 10 for comment.

It comes amid reports MasterChef Australia producers held crisis talks after fan favourite Ben Ungermann was arrested during filming.

Executives called the show’s editors into an ’emergency meeting’ last month and told them to ‘cut him out the best you can’, according to New Idea.

The incident apparently came as a shock to network bosses, with a source saying: ‘No one could have imagined something like that would ever happen.’

MasterChef: Back to Win follows 24 past contestants as they compete for ultimate redemption and a cash prize of $250,000.

The bookies’ favourite to win is Poh Ling Yeow, who was the runner-up on season one of MasterChef in 2009.
