Former MasterChef judge Matt Preston says he hasn’t ruled out working with George Calombaris again

‘It all depends on what comes up!’ Former MasterChef judge Matt Preston says he hasn’t ruled out working with George Calombaris again

Former MasterChef judge Matt Preston has revealed he wouldn’t rule out working on another TV show with former co-star George Calombaris.

In an interview with the Herald Sun on Wednesday, the 59-year-old food critic teased another collaboration with his longtime friend.

‘You never count nothing out,’ he said.

After leaving Channel 10’s MasterChef at the end of 2019, Matt and fellow judge Gary Mehigan both landed roles in Channel Seven’s upcoming cooking competition series, Plate of Origin.

The two will star alongside My Kitchen Rules judge Manu Feildel, but George, 41, was noticeably left off the bill.

Admitting it was ‘weird’ filming a show without George after 10 years of working on MasterChef together, he admitted that changing networks had softened the blow.

George’s contract kept him locked in at Channel 10 until July this year, while his co-stars were free to move across to Channel Seven.

But Matt said he’d already discussed filming a new show potentially overseas with both Gary, 53, and George.

‘It all depends on what comes up. The prospect of doing a TV show out of India for all the George, Gary and Matt fans out there is unlikely at the moment because of lockdown and being unable to travel,’ he explained.

He added: ‘But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.’

Speaking about his friend, Matt acknowledged that George has been having a ‘tough old time’ lately.

After being embroiled in an underpayment scandal with his staff, George’s once lucrative restaurant empire entered voluntary administration in February.
