Married At First Sight’s Jake Edwards enjoy date at a Sydney cafe

Married At First Sight Australia’s Jake Edwards and Rebecca Zemek bonded as they discussed how mental illness has affected both their lives during Thursday’s episode of the show.

It appeared that the pair were still going strong after filming, enjoying a cafe date together in Sydney recently.

Beck, 27, and Jake, 33, looked relaxed in one another’s company they walked side by side on their way to their outing.

The Perth businesswoman looked chic in a Billie Eilish T-shirt dress in black and white, with the singer’s name printed throughout the garment.

The short length of the dress showed off the beauty’s toned legs, and she wore a pair of Billie Eilish-themed socks pulled up, along with white sneakers.

She added a large pair of dark sunglasses to the ensemble, shielding her eyes, which were made up impeccably with a smoky eye-shadow.

Beck also wore a hint of blush to her makeup palette, as well as wearing a pale pink lipstick in a matte formula.

She carried her phone in her hands and opted for minimal accessories, including a rose gold bangle.

Former AFL player Jake was casually cool in a white Trophy Eyes t-shirt, a pair of black skinny jeans and flip-flops.

The outing comes after the couple, who were ‘married’ on the show earlier this week, bonded over difficulties with mental illness in their pasts.

‘During my AFL career, two years into my career, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety,’ Jake admitted during a picnic.

‘Away from the game, I was extremely broken, but when I was training and playing, I had to put on this facade, to be a certain person.’

‘About four years to the day after playing AFL footy, I attempted my life one morning in my bathroom after a four-day bender on drugs and alcohol.

‘As it failed, my phone started ringing, and I looked at the screen and it was my dad. Mum and Dad came in and picked me up and took me home, and so I had a second chance at life.’

Jake said he started his charity, Outside the Locker Room, after that experience ‘because I just don’t want people to be where I have been and go through that’.

A teary Beck, who appeared to be moved by Jake’s shock confession, replied: ‘I have lost family and friends to successful suicide attempts.’

Opening up about her past, Beck said: ‘When I was young, I lost my aunty and it absolutely tore my family apart to a stage where we’ve still never recovered.’

Jake replied: ‘I can feel your pain. Because I as well, I’ve lost close friends to it.’

He then said he was proud of his bride for having the courage to share her story with him, with the pair making a deeper emotional connection as a result.
